She achieved credientials through the Association for Certification of Vocational Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP) as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS).
She has a unique perspective as a veteran educator and understands how to present concepts in a manner that is easy for the client to understand. JoAnne’s prior education at the undergraduate and graduate level as well as analysis skills gained by obtaining National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT) credentials make her ability to adapt lessons outstanding especially with clients with multiple instructional challenges.
Ms. Chalom’s use of detailed instructional strategies optimizes client success and helps participants develop a trusting rapport.
Ms. Chalom is a 2007 recipient of the Donald Blasch Scholarship.
Mr. Blasch was for many years the chairperson of the Department of Blind Rehabilitation (now Blindness and Low Vision Studies) at Western Michigan University. He was a pioneer in the field of Orientation and Mobility and this scholarship is a reminder of his extraordinary accomplishments during this profession’s formative years.
